Your Own Personal History Part II
My apologies, dear readers, for my unexpected absence. My husband and I have been spending our free time beginning our search for a house of our own, and during all of this, I’m afraid my little blog here was horribly neglected.
Now on to the good stuff!
So, in our previous post we talked about the personal history aspect of what The Historium can do for you, now lets talk about what it can do for you from a research perspective. Our research capabilities are really what make us stand out, it has been said we have an incredible knack for finding things. The truth is, it’s hard work, hours of sifting through libraries, stacks of books, papers, and documents. Even though the finds make our treasure hunt exciting and intoxicating, the dead ends can be devastating, and it can feel hopeless at times. We’re here to help you maximize your efforts. Not everyone has time to devote to milling around endlessly in heaps of books and records to find the sentence that could reveal a clue leading to more searching and more piles of books.
We believe that history is for everyone and that not having time, or personal knowledge of the research facilities, should not prevent you from feeling the exhilaration of finding a piece of your past. That’s what we’re here to help you with.
“So, you’re like a history detective?”
Probably my favorite analogy, by a friend of mine, who was thrilled by this idea after I explained what my company is doing.
Of course, we can always sit down with you at your free consultation and help you to figure out what you might like to research. What mystery or question has always tugged at the edge of your mind. Of course, there might always be something obvious, as well.
Family Home – While it seems rare for a family to live in a home for the whole of their lives anymore, there was a time when it was quite the norm. If you are in the market, or own, a historic home, we can help you learn its story. It’s true what they say: your home is the biggest investment you can make, so why not learn its story.
A Family Story – The oral tradition is an incredible source of preservation, however sometimes, there needs to be more to substantiate it. Is there a family story you have heard all your life? Do you want to know if it is based on more than just a rumor? These are some of the best research topics because they can culminate in the most surprising and varied results.
A Relative – I think we all have really interesting people in our history, whether we know it or not. The stories about my great grandpa, who made the best turtle stew in the country, or my great-uncle who can make a violin tell a story are what color the tapestry of my heritage. If you have a relative or ancestor that you would like to learn more about, The Historium would be thrilled to help!
But really, we can use photographs, genealogies, heirlooms, documents, almost anything to start our exploration.
