It was/is a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Photography is one of those things that gets me all excited. Then and Now books at the book store always catch my attention. SO, you can imagine my excitement when I found the talented Brittany at Pillar Box Press’ post!
Go to her site for a more complete preview of the gorgeous photos from this flickr group. Love it!
It makes you wonder what was on your own street 50, or 100 years ago. Who was walking down the road you work on in the 1800s. What was where that park is 100 years ago.
Dakota County has a lot of resources where you can find these things out. Eaganites can check out Eagan 150‘s amazing photo collection for a start. Maybe they’ll have one of your street, or your house even. Eagan has a great history, even though it is a relatively young community. It didn’t even begin to take its current form until the mid-seventies, and at that point remained largely farmland. Although, due to the construction of several major highways in the area the population grew exponentially after that point. It may seem at first, overwhelming to find the historic relevance among the newly constructed buildings, but trust me, it’s there.
I hope that these pictures inspire you as much as they inspire me!
