Grandparents
I think one of the most amazing parts of my job is seeing the client’s reaction when you show them what you have found. Especially in the case of Heritage Packages where often the client comes in with a really two dimensional concept of the subject, maybe it’s a person they have only heard vague stories about, or just a name on a tree somewhere that never had any sort of personality or depth.
But every once in a while it happens with someone that a client thought they knew very well, possibly a parent or grandparent, they discover through the process of interviews and storytelling that they had a struggle or story that drastically changed the shape of their life. Our Legacy Packages afford them the opportunity to hear about this experience directly from the source.
This time I can’t take the credit, my mother’s cousin pulled out a box of old family photos and posted some amazing shots of my grandparents when they were in their teens, ones that my mother had never seen. I’m so thrilled to have these available to me and to our family!
It breaks my heart when I hear someone say that they don’t think that their story is worth telling, because, I promise you, there is someone who is dying to hear it. Thanks to Doug for sharing these images with my family!
